The island of Seglvik is located 12 nautical miles from the mainland. Here you will only find the base camp and raw nature. Nevertheless, there is plenty to discover here:
Your inclusive services: The necessary equipment, snorkelling gear and use of the facilities at Base Camp are included for you.
Imagine gazing out over the icy waters of the North Atlantic as the first rays of sunlight shine over the snow-covered fjords - and suddenly a huge dorsal fin breaks the surface. Goosebump moment. This experience is yours: with Travelcircus you will be part of a group whale watching or snorkelling in the middle of the arctic wilderness of northern Norway – you decide which adventure calls you.
At the whale watching you set off in a manoeuvrable RIB boat in the footsteps of the orcas and humpback whales that hunt for herring in this region. The silence is only broken by the powerful exhalation of a whale – a nature experience that will touch you deeply.
Or you can venture into the ice-cold water yourself: while snorkelling with a dry suit, you can dive into a fascinating underwater world between shoals of fish, kelp forests and crystal-clear visibility – a feeling of absolute freedom and awe.
For both experiences, you can choose how long you want to participate:
Please note that damaged or lost equipment will be charged.
When the whales are hunting outside and the wind is shaking the huts, the food is served inside – warm and with Nordic charm.
What awaits you in culinary terms:
What is the address of the island of Seglvik?
Unfortunately there is no official address for the island of Seglvik. Your journey to the island consists of several stages. Fly by plane to Tromso Airport and from there take the ferry via Skjervoy to Seglvik. Of course, you can also drive from the airport to Skjervoy by car (takes about four to five hours) and take the ferry to the island from there.
What can I see on the Valhalla Orca Expeditions?
The Valhalla Orca Expeditions are of course primarily about orcas, but you can also see other sea creatures such as humpback whales or fin whales. With a bit of luck, herring can also be observed. On land, you have the opportunity to see animals such as eagles, otters and reindeer.
What makes orcas so special?
Orcas are fascinating animals that live in close family groups - so-called pods. Eight to twelve animals usually form a group, led by the experienced leader. Male orcas can grow up to eight metres long** - equivalent to the length of a bus - and weigh as much as a small truck. Nevertheless, they glide through the water with astonishing elegance. Each family communicates using their own dialect of clicks and calls - a language that only their group understands.
Can anyone take part in the expeditions?
No, only people who fulfil certain requirements can take part. The minimum age for whale watching is 12 years, for snorkelling you must be at least 16 years old. In principle, participation is only permitted for people in good health who have taken out appropriate insurance for diving and snorkelling activities, have signed the disclaimer and already have snorkelling experience.
Does the organiser act in an animal-friendly manner?
Yes, Valhalla Expedition attaches great importance to respectful and animal-friendly behaviour - in the spirit of the Arctic wilderness that you & other adventurers are allowed to experience. The boats are equipped with particularly quiet engines so as not to disturb the whales, and strict attention is paid to keeping a safe distance from the animals. Chasing the orcas is out of the question - instead, the focus is on observing them on their own terms. Before you go out on the water, you will be trained in how to behave towards the animals - whether you are whale watching or snorkelling. This makes every experience not only intense, but also responsible.
What is not included?
The offer does not include flights, hotel stays outside Reinfjord Camp or ferry journeys to and from the camp. Also excluded is the return journey from Reinfjord to Skjervøy on the day of departure.
When are the orcas in Norway?
You are most likely to see orcas in November. Please note, however, that spotting animals and snorkelling with orcas or other animals cannot be guaranteed.
How close does the boat get to the orcas?
The boat crew is familiar with the orcas and tries to disturb them as little as possible, which means keeping a certain distance from the orcas. How large this distance will be depends on how safe the situation is for animals and humans, but also on whether the orcas approach the boat. If the orcas dive and disappear, they will not be pursued.
Can I also see the Northern Lights?
Seeing the Northern Lights always requires luck and the right weather. The best time of year to observe this spectacular natural phenomenon is from the end of September to the end of March. Cold and dry weather is also an advantage for a good view.
How long do the expeditions last?
The expeditions vary in length, depending on the duration you have booked. For a first insight into the Arctic wilderness, the 4-day variant with 3 nights is suitable - you arrive on Thursdays and depart on Sundays. A little more time for adventure and relaxation is offered by the 5-day trip with 4 nights, which starts on a Sunday and ends on a Thursday. If you are looking for the ultimate experience, you can book the exclusive 6-day variant with 5 nights over Christmas (21/12-26/12/2025) or New Year's Eve (30/12/2025-04/01/2026) - perfect for crowning the year with a real highlight.
What is included for me?
The offer includes the booked orca expedition (whale watching or snorkelling) as well as 3, 4 or 5 nights in Reinfjord Camp with daily meals consisting of breakfast, lunch snack and dinner. Use of the sauna and jacuzzi is also included. The whale watching offer also includes whale watching in the heated Nautilus boat or snorkelling with orcas in the RIB boat, including equipment. Snorkelling also includes a 10 mm Fladen wetsuit, mask, snorkel, fins, gloves, shoes and a dry robe. A private boat trip from Skjervøy to Reinfjord is also included on arrival.
